Real Hope: God's Heart for Humanityনমুনা
God’s Heart for Humanity
The image of God, coming as a friend, to walk and talk with His people in the cool of the evening in the garden He created for them denotes God’s desire for close friendship and fellowship with humanity from the beginning of time.
The idea of walking in a garden and talking about my day with my heavenly Father in prayer, sounds wonderful in theory. However, in reality the demands of life often leave little margin. For most of us, the cool of the day is still work time. Making dinner or driving children to activities or supervising homework. There are emails to catch up on, social media prompts to timeline a happy birthday message or congratulations for a special anniversary to friends and relatives. If I’m in the garden in the cool of the day, I’m more often trying to remove some more weeds or water the drooping pot plants after a hot day rather than thinking about time with God.
Adam and Eve wanted to be their own gods but in reaching for knowing good and evil for themselves they lost their friendship with God. I wonder if I’m trying to be my own god with all my busyness and losing the closeness I could have with God. As I look back, I’m not sure that all my busyness has achieved a great deal. More importantly, I really do want to be known by a loving heavenly Father and to spend time drawing close to Him.
Well, the sun is setting and writing this devotion has made me think dinner can wait. I’m going for a walk with God.
