7 Fears That Hold Most Leaders Back

DAY 2 OF 7

Day 2
#2: Fear of Success

This mistake is a difficult one to notice. Don't all leaders desire success? Well, yes and no. Pastors and some business leaders may be prone to dismiss the idea of success, instead inserting the word faithful. For instance, saying, "I'm called to be faithful, not successful."

Yet, faithfulness implies success (i.e., success at being faithful). If God calls you to be faithful and you are faithful, then aren't you also successful? It's crucial to redefine success in alignment with God's purposes and acknowledge that true success is rooted in faithfulness to one's calling.

Overcoming the fear of success should involve redefining your idea of success. Success is not about being the biggest or the best. It's about being faithful to God and to your calling. Be grateful for the successes you have had.

Additionally, learn to celebrate your successes. So many leaders don’t take time to reflect or may barely notice when they have achieved a goal. Take the time to celebrate your success. This will help you build confidence and resilience. Lastly, guard yourself against comparing yourself to others. We will discuss the fear of comparison another day, but comparison often rears its head in success as well.
