Hope for Recovery: A 7-Day Plan for Those in Recoveryনমুনা
Day 2: Hope Needs a Partner
Sobriety isn’t achieved alone. We stay on the road to recovery through the patient, loving, nurturing support and accountability of trusted mentors. “Hope Partners,” you might call them. Hope Partners are people who help us achieve this goal of recovery that for so long seemed completely unattainable.
But as addicts this concept can be hard to understand, because we’ve spent too much time doing things all on our own. Stepping up and reaching out for help can be an intimidating and humbling thought. But what you must remember is that just because you’ve found some early sobriety, it doesn’t mean that life suddenly will become perfect.
Life still goes on and with that comes disappointments, layoffs, tough financial decisions, legal battles, loss of loved ones, parenting struggles, and of course the ongoing battle to stay clean and sober. These are some of the main reasons why we need a solid team around us who will keep us in line, encourage us to continue to grow, and be there to pull us up when were down.
Hope Partners are in place for your success, so the more you have, the better chance you have to stay clean.
How do you get a Hope Partner? You probably already have some people in mind. Maybe someone who can be a spiritual partner or mentor. Someone else who might be a good recovery partner. Someone who would be a good business or industry mentor. Pray and ask the Lord to identify those people in your life and determine to approach them about becoming a Hope Partner for you.
Ask the Holy Spirit to guide you as you ask these people to step into your life as a Hope Partner, and trust that God will exponentially change your life as you open up to the people he puts in your path. It can be awkward, but it’s worth it!
Pray:
God, I’ve tried for so long to do this on my own. Each time I’ve failed. I acknowledge that I can’t overcome the battle that I am facing alone. The task is too big. But I know that, with you on my side and a team around me, I can do this. I can live clean and sober for the rest of my life. I can beat this addiction that has chained me down for so long! So today will you help me identify and connect with the right people to help hold me accountable? I need strong people who love me to make sure I follow through with what I have set out to do. I pray that you would clear a path to the right people and that when the time comes for me to ask them to help me that you would give me bold confidence. I know you love me and that I am worth this. Amen.
