“Glory to God in the highest heaven, and on earth peace to those on whom his favor rests.” I remember when I was younger hearing my cousin, who was wrapped in a white bedsheet and a fake angel crown, saying these words while we performed the story of Christmas for our family. These words are so important to the story of Jesus’ birth, and they were said by a large group of angels to shepherds who were watching their sheep. These words are spoken right after the angel tells the shepherds of the birth of Jesus!

The words spoken by the angels are so important to the Christmas story because they tell us of the Glory of God and the angels are praising God for the gift of Jesus. God sent Jesus to be born on Christmas so that the whole world could be saved! This gift is so great that all the angels could do is worship and give glory to the giver of that gift. While we are in this Christmas season, let’s not miss celebrating the birth of Jesus, but worship and honor God for giving us the best gift ever.

Right now, take a few minutes to worship God for the gift of Jesus. That could be through prayer, listening to a worship song, going outside for a walk in God’s creation, or something completely different! Whatever you do, worship God in some way for giving us this great gift.
