God, You Are Faithful
Pastor A.W. Tozer wrote that “God’s attributes are not isolated traits of His character but facets of His unitary being. They are not things-in-themselves; they are, rather, thoughts by which we think of God, aspects of a perfect whole, names given to whatever we know to be true of the Godhead.”
The nature and character of God never has and never will change in any way, shape, or form (Hebrews 13:8, Malachi 3:6). Every attribute that exists within God He embodies fully, harmoniously, completely, and perfectly.
The song “God, You Are Faithful” is a commentary on the attribute of God’s faithfulness. It is God’s nature to eternally adhere to His character. Because He is faithful, we can put our full trust in Him. Because He is good, He wills good for us. Because He is love, we are loved wholly and completely. Because He is just, He acts in perfect justice. Because He is merciful, He extends grace. We can rest in God’s faithfulness, knowing that His plans and promises for us are for our good. His promises are “Yes” and “Amen!” (2 Corinthians 1:18–22).
As the song mentions, we will experience uncertainty. On this side of heaven, we will face doubt, fear, valleys, and every kind of trial and tribulation. We often focus on our lack and pain, but Peter warns us not to be surprised when we go through trials (1 Peter 4:12). James urges us to count our sufferings as joy (James 1:2–4).
There is beauty in trusting God amid life’s tribulations. This is an opportunity we will not have entertain on the other side of heaven. When we enter eternity, we will never doubt the Lord’s faithfulness again. He will wipe away every tear. There will be no more sorrow, pain, or suffering (Revelation 21:1–7). These are things that are unique to the life we are presently living. What joy it is to hold fast to His unchanging love, despite the fallen world’s efforts to maintain a divide between our Comforter and us!
As you listen to this song, dwell on God’s goodness towards you and give thanks for times in the past when you experienced His perfect faithfulness. Let those memories become monuments of God’s unchanging nature. Come back to those monuments in times of chaos and mystery, and rest with confidence that our Lord’s good promises will be fulfilled.
