MADE FOR THIS MOMENT: ABRAHAM
Believe
READY
“Abram believed the Lord, and He credited it to him as righteousness.” --Genesis 15:6
SET
“But God” is one of my favorite phrases in the Bible. It brings hope to situations that seem to be hopeless. Abram came from a scattered people who constantly dishonored God. All he knew was a life of self-gratification from the cultural lineage he came from in what is today Iraq. But God knew him to be more. God called him in the middle of his own personal desert to something unimaginable. He chose Abram as the beginning of God’s descendants, which would be as numerous as the stars.
Can you imagine Abram’s reaction? “Me? Do you know who I am? What I have done? What I will do?” But God chose to make a covenant with him, not only making him part of the lineage of Jesus but changing his name in the process, helping him see his new identity in God. He demonstrated to Abram, and now to us, that none of what we have done can hold God back from doing what He can do if we believe. God challenged Abram to choose Him, new life, and freedom in His presence.
So Abram became Abraham because he chose to believe. He did mess up numerous times, repeating some mistakes. But each time, he turned back to God in faith. God doesn’t make mistakes. God put him in that situation because He knew what Abraham could be in God’s power and use him for the good of many. God transformed Abraham through His power to be more than he ever imagined he could be.
God does not choose people because we are capable. He chooses people because He is able.
God knows you right where you are, and He knows why you were given this opportunity, not because of what you have done but because of what He can do. You were made for this moment to show the world no matter what happens next, what mistakes you will make, God is greater than your worst mistakes.
Take time today to consider the promises of God. His promises to you are as true as His promise to Abraham. Run in faith, standing firm in the fact that your story gives glory to God, the only One who deserves it. No longer are you defined by your accolades on the field or your mistakes and messes in life. You are a Child of the King of Kings.

WORKOUT
Genesis 12:1-9; Genesis 17:1-8
OVERTIME
Father, we can’t comprehend how big Your plans are for us. Just as Abraham was called to believe You had a bigger picture for him, You have positioned us each in our given situations to glorify You with something greater that we don’t yet see. We know we can trust you because You are who you say You are. Help us to be open to what You have for us today. Give us the strength to let go of mistakes, knowing you don’t hold onto them. Let that space instead be filled with Your grace and strength to be bold in our faith and choose to glorify You in all things. Amen.
