My Identity in Christনমুনা
Created in God's image
God created man in His own image. In God’s image He created him; male and female He created them (Genesis 1:27).
The most basic thing we can say about ourselves is that we are part of God’s creation. We are His idea. We were in His thoughts and made by Him. Take a moment to ponder how impressive and miraculous that is! We are no accident, not the result of random processes, but created with a purpose. Neither are we improved mammals, a little more advanced; we are in essence very different from the other animals.
God spoke and there it was: that is true for the creation of all that lives, except for man. The Creator took some dust and shaped a human being, and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life (Gen. 2:7). And the woman He shaped from one of the ribs of the man (Gen. 2:21-22). God called the creation of the plants and the celestial bodies ‘good’, but man He called ‘very good’. This special place in creation called for a special assignment: to fill the earth, to have dominion over the earth and all the animals. To assign a great task to someone means to have trust in that person. God trusted the abilities of man!
The most striking thing in all this is that God created us in such a way that we are able to have fellowship with Him (Gen. 3:8). However, with disobedience, humanity lost the fellowship with God...
How does the thought that you were in God's mind when He made the earth influence you?
About this Plan
Our identity is defined by personal attributes such as character, gender and colour of skin, but also by the groups that we belong to. You may ask yourself: how do I view myself? How do others see me? The most important question however is: How does God see me? Who am I in Christ?
