Beyond Belief

DAY 22 OF 28

When was the last time you were hungry? Like, really hungry? Now imagine being hungry and needing to walk through a desert to a place you're not even sure exists. You'd probably start complaining and questioning where you're going. That's exactly what the Israelites did as they were wandering the wilderness.

Tired, hungry, and frustrated, they started to get upset with Moses and Aaron for not providing them with everything they needed. They questioned their leadership and doubted if God even cared about them at all. Some of them even said they wanted to go back to Egypt, that awful situation they just left, because at least they had food there.

We can start to doubt God's faithfulness when things are more difficult than we'd expect. We can even forget those moments in the past when God was faithful to us. But when the Israelites grumbled and complained, God didn't react harshly. Instead, God showed them compassion and provided them with manna, a type of bread that satisfied their hunger. God took care of them even when they had doubts.

When we're in a difficult situation or we find ourselves doubting God, we can trust God to keep taking care of us. God will show us compassion when we doubt, just like what happened with the Israelites in the wilderness. Our questions won't stop God from caring about us and providing us with everything we need. You can always remember that when you doubt God can be trusted, God still takes care of you.

About this Plan

Beyond Belief

The Bible is full of statements and stories that seem "beyond belief." Some sound too miraculous — like, did God really split a whole sea in half? Other things sound too good to be true — like, is God really as loving, patient, or powerful as Scripture says? If you've ever wondered if what the Bible says is really worth believing, this devotional is for you.
