Who Is the Holy Spirit?

DAY 3 OF 4

He is Your Helper

The world moves ahead in darkness and deception, never really knowing the truth in a certain situation, but the guidance of the Holy Spirit allows you to see things clearly. Every morning you can wake up and invite the Holy Spirit to show you the truth about the day to come. When a tough decision confronts you, you tune your heart to hear what the Holy Spirit says about it. When a friend comes to you in a bad situation needing immediate advice, you’re already walking in truth and can ask the Holy Spirit for wisdom and counsel.

The Holy Spirit is our riverboat captain on life’s otherwise treacherous and unpredictable journey.

Jesus said it this way the night before He was crucified: “If you love Me, keep My commandments. And I will ask the Father, and He will give you another Helper, that He may abide with you forever—the Spirit of truth” (John 14:15–17).

You can see in Jesus’s description that the Holy Spirit will never lead you into error or deception but only into truth.

Maybe the most important habit you can get into is to invite the Holy Spirit into every conversation and situation you enter. Before making a business decision, ask Him to help you. Sometimes He has someone for you to talk to, or He wants to help you avoid bad traffic or something worse. He is such a great Friend.

Do not cast me away from Your presence, and do not take Your Holy Spirit from me.— Psalm 51:11

Most of our interactions and experiences with the Holy Spirit happen internally, in our thought lives, but they are reflected and carried out in public view. A person under the Holy Spirit’s influence goes through life confident and peaceful instead of random and run-down.

And the disciples were filled with joy and with the Holy Spirit.—Acts 13:52
