Faith for the Faithless

DAY 3 OF 5

One of the negative thoughts I've cast out repeatedly was my habit of comparison. You know, the trap that convinces you that you aren’t “enough” as compared to other people’s lives? These divisive thoughts seem to pop up unexpectedly. My mental “playlist” was overloaded with negative self-talk instead of God’s Word. Often, I bow to my own heart’s deception with messages like "I’m not good enough," "What will people think?" and “At least I’m not like …”

No one is enough without the grace of Christ.

As I came to realize God dwells inside of me, I understood that thinking less of myself was thinking less of the Holy Spirit inside of me. It was apparent I needed to change my thoughts. There’s a solemn warning in 1 Corinthians 10:12-13 (NLT): If you think you are standing strong, be careful not to fail. The temptations in your life are no different from what others experience.

In this context, the word temptations mean “enticement to evil or testing in general.” Satan entices division with tempting comparisons, which turns your thinking into “destruction” mode. Habitual negative thoughts are very toxic, self-destructive, displeasing, and dishonoring to the Lord. We must work even harder to take captive those comparisons as well as negative habits of measuring ourselves up against others. God understands how tempting it is to go back to our old ways. This verse promises a way out by God’s faithfulness, which means there’s supernatural power available to help in the transformation process.

Gain God’s Truth: God loves to hear your cry for help. So don’t lose heart in this pursuit of cleaning up your mind. I understand the world around us has many traps and temptations. But let’s be people of God who fix our eyes on the prize of knowing our true value and worth belongs to Jesus. And we can’t do life without Him! Don’t tap out or give into comparative declarations! God doesn’t compare His children, so why do we? Tap into the ways of God and be confident that your value rests in Jesus. By doing so, negative habits will change over time, and you will “not grow weary and lose heart” (Hebrews 12:3).

Have you ever wondered if you're enough?
