#Thankful (Philippe Sternbauer)
You are sitting here. Your suitcase is lying on the bed. And you ask yourself how on earth you could have forgotten them again: your toothbrush, your sun cream, your swimming gear…
I have often found myself confronted with the painful fact of human forgetfulness. Even when I have specifically told myself not to forget something, it has still happened.
We are not stupid, but sadly really forgetful.
Especially regarding thankfulness, our memories seem to have great difficulty in finding even a single reason to say thank you.
There is a helpful exercise. Search through your life systematically, with the help of a few good questions, to find undiscovered reasons to be grateful. And so you do not forget these straight away, it is best to write them down. For ink lasts a little longer than our memory!
Actionstep:
Looking back through your past, write down the things you can thank God for:
- Where have you experienced God’s forgiveness and restoration?
- Where have you experienced God’s healing power in your life? Or seen breakthrough?
- Where have you experienced God’s protection?
- Where have you also experienced God’s presence in difficult times?
- Where have you experienced God’s provision? Or received more than you needed?
- Where in your past has God renewed your strength?
