Trusting God During Marital Hardship

DAY 2 OF 3

Looking at Your Husband

Godly marriages threaten Satan. 1 Peter 5:8 says the devil prowls around like a roaring lion looking for someone to devour. He’ll even use the challenges we face in marriage to misplace blame and point the finger at our husbands. I was guilty of this. Every time something went wrong, I blamed my husband. All this time, you thought it was your husband, but it’s been this cunning, devious influencer setting traps of destruction. Stop fighting the man. The battle is spiritual.

Eph. 6:10 says it best, put on the whole armor of God, that you may be able to stand against the schemes of the devil. I was fighting my husband, but my husband was not the enemy. Isn’t it amazing how Satan knows the exact buttons to push to cause division in our marriage?

God started teaching me that my assignment was to cover my husband in prayer, even during our season of hardship. I became his prayer warrior. I started inviting the Holy Spirit to hover over his walk, struggles, insecurities, worries, wounds, and thoughts. I stopped being overly concerned about his flaws and allowed God to be God over his life. Trusting God with my husband’s heart took courage, faith, and, more importantly, surrender. Remember, God never said this would be easy, but He promised to be there with us.

Action: Pray this prayer over your husband.

Father, teach me how to cast my cares on You. This season has not been easy. My faith is challenged, but I will continue to fight the good fight of faith. Please help me to see my husband through your eyes, as your son. Even in his imperfection, give me the grace to see who he is becoming. I declare that Satan will not threaten the sanctification of our marriage. My surrender today welcomes your consuming power to be God. In Jesus’ Name. Amen
