DAY 3 OF 3

The Gospel Connections

Gospel Connections

Gospel Connections are the links between a biblical story and the gospel of Jesus. Review the Gospel Connections below and learn how to find Jesus in every story of the Bible.

Gospel Connection 1

  • Israel came to Rephidim in the wilderness and found no water (Exod 17:1). So the people quarreled with Moses and tested God (Exod 17:1-3).
  • At the Feast of Tabernacles, memorializing Israel's wandering in the wilderness, Jesus said. “If anyone thirsts, let him come to me” (John 7:38-39).

Gospel Connection 2

  • Moses cried out to the Lord, because they were at the point of stoning him (Exod 17:4).
  • The people rejected Jesus, and those in the temple took up stones to stone him (John 8:59).

Gospel Connection 3

  • The Lord told Moses to take his staff in his hand and go to a rock in Horeb, where the Lord would stand upon the rock (Exod 17:5-6).
  • Jesus in Jerusalem, which was spiritually identified with Sinai and Horeb (Gal 4:24-25), was taken outside the city to a hill called Golgotha (Matt 27:33). Jesus was the Rock that was to be struck to bring forth water (1 Cor 10:4).

In 1 Corinthians 10:1-4, the apostle Paul tells us that the rock was a picture of Jesus! But what exactly does Paul mean by that?
