Real Hope: Vision

DAY 4 OF 5

Renewed Commitment

The Bible states very clearly in the verse above that God doesn’t change. If God doesn’t change and we are His people, why do we all feel this urge to change as we face a new year. Yes, we are all called to be more like Jesus. Yes, it’s a chance for a fresh look at the year ahead and the new opportunities God may be presenting us with – but does He desire a ‘new me’ for the new year? Could it be that as we head into the new year the opportunity is instead for a renewed commitment to living the same life He’s called us to as His children?

Hebrews 13 begins with these words: ‘Keep on loving one another as brothers and sisters. Do not forget to show hospitality to strangers, for by so doing some people have shown hospitality to angels without knowing it… remember those in prison… and those who are mistreated… Keep your lives free from the love of money and be content with what you have, because God has said, “Never will I leave you; never will I forsake you.” So we say with confidence, “The Lord is my helper; I will not be afraid. What can mere mortals do to me?” Remember your leaders, who spoke the word of God to you. Consider the outcome of their way of life and imitate their faith. Jesus Christ is the same yesterday and today and forever.’

Paul’s encouragement to the Hebrews is to continue to love one another, to keep their lives free from love of money, and to remember to follow their leaders. It’s an exhortation to keep walking as they are and all the more as they’re transformed by Jesus. Keep fighting the good fight every day – no matter if it’s the new year or not. Could it be that this new year doesn’t call for a new you, but a renewed commitment to who Jesus has freed you to be?

About this Plan

Real Hope: Vision

While many people start a year with resolutions, we wanted to start the year with vision: the vision that God has for His people and the calling He has placed on every one of our lives. Let’s start the year not with things to fix or improve, but with the vision to see past the ordinary day-to-day and to look to the future God has set for us.
