Daily Presence

DAY 31 OF 365

When I became a mom, my definition of a “clean shirt” changed pretty significantly. I’m sure you can guess why! I used to change my shirt anytime it got dirty. You know, like a normal person would! But now, nothing is “dirty” until it’s been gobbed on, spit-up on, wiped with grubby little fingers, and stained with spinach puree at least three times.

The best part of my new way of dressing is that there is zero judgment! Normally, when you are walking around the grocery store in a dirty shirt, people think you’re gross! One thing changes that reaction; my baby. The second people see me holding my son, they think “ah what a sweet mom,” without even noticing the puke on my shoulder.

Thank goodness Jesus’ blood changes the rules for “cleanliness” in God’s eyes! The amount of ceremony and rigamarole necessary to enter the presence of God seems like an impossible feat as we read through Leviticus. The rituals were detailed and necessary for the Israelites for the sake of their safety. God’s presence is so Holy, it is dangerous for the “unclean.” There is a massive gap of holiness that exists between God and man but that gap has since been filled!

Jesus enters and our uncleanliness is covered by his sacrifice! The judgment is placed on His shoulders and we are purified. The weight of my “dirt” still exists, but God only sees the purity of Jesus in my place. If it weren’t for Jesus, I’d be walking through those same rituals I read about in Leviticus. Thank You Jesus!
