Equipped to Standনমুনা
Have you felt let down by God? Have you been disappointed in the Lord or disappointed in an outcome? Have you spent hours in pain, wondering, "Why, God, why?"
We can ask the Lord why. We can make up our theology and come up with our reasoning. But we are not supposed to lean on our understanding. Proverbs 3 says, "Trust in the Lord with all of your heart and lean not on your understanding."
Matthew 27 gives us a good picture of the difference between asking why and surrendering because of a lack of complete understanding. When Jesus is on the cross, he says, "My God, my God, why have you forsaken me?" Some of those around him heard and said, "He's calling on Elijah. Let's see if Elijah comes to save him." Luke 23:46 says Jesus cried loudly, "Father, into my hands, I commit my spirit." Jesus did not yell, "Why?" He didn't say, "I don't understand, but I commit to your way."
That is the solution for all of us. Maturity is coming to the place where we can stop and say, "God, I don't understand why but into your hands I commit myself, my soul, my life. And regardless if I understand, I will love you, I will choose you," even in the middle of pain, grief, the hurt of our life.
The lyrics of a song called Firm Foundation by Maverick City Music say:
"I've still got joy in chaos
I've got peace that makes no sense
I won't be going under
I'm not held by my own strength
'Cause I've built my life on Jesus
He's never let me down
He's faithful through every season
So why would He fail now? (Shout it out)
He won't.
Rain came, wind blew
But my house was built on You
I'm safe with You
I'm gonna make it through"
We may not understand the brewing rain, wind, and storms, but God is still the author of abundant life. Our house is built on a firm foundation when it is built on Christ! He is faithful through a thousand generations. He is a good father. Believe this. Your God is for you, not against you. He will never leave you. You are already equipped to stand.
