Bridging the Gap

DAY 7 OF 7

Pause and Praise

Busyness not only takes its toll on our health, but can lead us away from our devotion to God. Busyness is celebrated in society today and to pause in this overworking world is a decision we have to consciously make. It is not possible for us to stay connected to God when our life swirls around us at a rapid pace unless we stop and take a break. God rested on the seventh day (Gen 2:2), not because He was tired, but to set an example for us, He sanctified it. - v 3

An exploring party in Africa had employed a group of natives to accompany them. Being in a hurry to reach their objective, the party was pushed relentlessly for several days. Finally, the natives just sat down and would go no farther. When asked what the matter was, the superstitious natives replied, ‘We are waiting for our souls to catch up with our bodies’. Our days will only get louder and louder but we need to remember to stop and catch up on spiritual things.

This means a Christian is to take time out of his busy life to worship, to hear His Word preached, and to enjoy fellowship with one another (Heb 10:25). We need to pause and praise God. When we rest from our work, we truly worship God because we consciously make time from our busy schedules to hear God and worship Him despite our pressing timelines. Martha was caught up with work while Mary chose to sit at Jesus’ feet and listen to His word. Martha complained but Jesus replied that Mary chose what was best. (Lk 10:42)

God gave 24 hours and six days to accomplish our tasks. The truth is that God will accomplish through you what He needs to accomplish in that time. We need to take a break from our work. We need to stop and listen to God over the din. God is in control and is doing wondrous things. We should not miss out because we are too busy. How can we pray, attend Church and recharge our spiritual lives, if we live busy lives and don’t pause? We need to learn to get out of the fray and pray.

Lord, help us to rest in You and for You. Amen

About this Plan

Bridging the Gap

For a Christian, everything is sacred. We need to glorify God in everything we do − be it work, family, business or profession. But we have created a gap between work and worship, secular and sacred. Linus, in this practical study, says that the real proof of our worship lies, not in our words, but in our lives lived outside the Church. We cannot worship God on Sunday and dishonour Him on Monday. We have to decide to stop living a double life. Let us bridge the gap!
