Day 5

This week, we’ve spent our time learning about people in the Bible who had to overcome their own fears and anxieties over their futures. Though they were anxious, they had to learn to rely fully on God’s consistent and unfailing character. We also learned about the Holy Spirit, our Wonderful Counselor, who is faithful to keep His promises to each of us for our future.

When you think about your future, the first thing that comes to mind is probably the next life stage you’re looking towards, your five-year plan, or maybe even something you’re dreading this week. The future can be exciting, terrifying, overwhelming, and hopeful all at once. But what if we take it a step further out of our finite timeline? We know that Scripture says that if you’re in Christ Jesus, you have the absolute best future in store for you, but it isn’t until our time on earth is done.

When you think of heaven, what do you see? Do you visualize the dazzling pearly gates? The shiny streets of gold? A throne adorned with every kind of jewel? While these are all descriptions from Scripture, this is just the beginning. This beautiful imagery pales in comparison to what we are going to experience.

Because of Jesus, we are offered an eternity spent in the presence of our Savior, worshipping Him in complete paradise. We are given the opportunity to thrive in a place where there will be no tears, no sadness, no hurt, and no sin. Scripture says, “Death will be no more; grief, crying, and pain will be no more, because the previous things have passed away.” He has made all things new. This is our future. This is our hope.

Action Step: Think about what in your future you have allowed to overwhelm you recently. Spend some time sharing with God what comes to mind and ask Him to calm your spirit. Thank Him for the peace found in His promises of victory and an eternity with Him in heaven.
