Expecting the One With Many Namesনমুনা
THE SHEPHERD, GUIDE OF ALL GUIDES!
In another portion of scripture, Jesus is called the Chief Shepherd, and today, we center on John 10:11, where He is referred to as the ‘good Shepherd.' In this verse, Jesus speaks, and He describes Himself with this name, stating that He will give his life for His sheep!
“I am the ‘good shepherd:’ the good shepherd giveth his life for the sheep.” John 10:11
A ‘Governor’ rules over His people. Jesus’ birth threatened Herod significantly as he was the current King over the Jews. He would do anything within His power to eradicate anyone threatening his control, even ordering the death of a newborn child.
“And thou Bethlehem, in the land of Juda, art not the least among the princes of Judah for out of thee shall come a‘Governor,’ that shall rule my people, Israel.” Matthew 2:6
So far in this study, Jesus was named the Chief Shepherd, the Good Shepherd, and in this verse, the ‘Great Shepherd!’ We read that this new title came about after Jesus was resurrected, which is a great assurance that he always planned to be a Shepherd to those who would follow Him.
“Now may the God of peace, who through the blood of the eternal covenant brought back from the dead our Lord Jesus, that ‘great Shepherd’of the sheep.” Hebrews 13:20
Another great name for Jesus is that of a ‘Guide.’ A guide knows what lies ahead, and they are aware of their surroundings and the best way to get to the destination of where they plan to go. People pay money for tourist guides to keep them from wasting valuable time on vacation. Jesus is the perfect Guide for those who follow His leadership, ensuring they are on the correct path to Heaven!
“For this God is our God for ever and ever; He will be ‘our guide’ even to the end.” Psalm 48:14
LET US PAUSE:
In Today’s study, let us pause for a few minutes and thank God for being the perfect Shepherd over us. If you have tried to live without His guidance, ask forgiveness and relinquish control to the Lord. He is a guide that will not take you down the wrong path.
