Expecting the One With Many Namesনমুনা
HE IS OUR ROCK!
We know that Jesus was without sin; the only name for that definition is ‘Righteousness.’ Jesus made man in His image, so God’s desire for humanity is to be like Him and become righteous.
“In his days Judah will be saved and Israel will live in safety. This is the name by which he will be called: The Lord Our ‘Righteous’ Savior”. Jeremiah 23:6
When we think of a ‘Rock,’ we think of something immovable, solid, firm, and supportive. All these define who Jesus is!
“He is the ‘Rock’, his works are perfect, and all his ways are just. A faithful God who does no wrong, upright and just is he.” Deuteronomy 32:4
In several verses, Jesus is referred to as the ‘Root of David.’ The Hebrew word for root is sheresh, which means it is living, alive, and sends up shoots or branches. Matthew 1 gives the genealogical records of Jesus, taking him back through the lineage of Jesse, father of David.
“I, Jesus, have sent my angel to give you[a] this testimony for the churches. I am the ‘Root and the Offspring of David,’ and the bright Morning Star.” Revelation 22:16
If you have ever seen a ‘Rose of Sharon' bush in full bloom, you can testify that it is a lovely and fitting name for Jesus!
“I am the ‘Rose of Sharon’ and the lily of the valleys.” Song of Solomon 2:1
LET US PAUSE:
Whether you are doing these devotionals alone, with your family, or as a group, I have an at-home pause for you today. Locate a rock that you can place outside your entry door. Each time you pass it, may it remind you of ‘The Rock,’ who is the head of your life and home!
