Seek Your City's Goodনমুনা
Being a light
“You are the light of the world. […] Let your light shine before others, so that they may see your good works and give glory to your Father who is in heaven.” (Matthew 5:14-16)
Jesus says His followers are the light of the world, and He calls us to spread this light further. So many people are living in spiritual darkness... They need the light of life.
We can be a light by telling our fellow townsmen about Jesus Christ, who is the ultimate Light of the world. John the Baptist did this when Jesus was about to start his earthly ministry: “He came as a witness, to bear witness about the light, that all might believe through him” (John 1:7).
Jesus mentions another way to spread light in Matthew 5: by showing others our good works. If we are living in the light, this will become apparent to others watching us at work, among friends, or during holidays with our relatives. This will become apparent to the neighborhood or city if a local church is living in the light. Our lives should give others cause to give glory to our heavenly Father. That’s a high calling!
When nonbelievers watch you, do they see God’s light shining brightly in your life?
About this Plan
As Christians, we are not at home in this world. Instead, “our citizenship is in heaven” (Philippians 3:20). We are exiles and strangers here. What does this mean for our daily lives? How are we to act in the city and nation we are living in? This reading plan helps you find out.
