Jochabed
Imagine being a pregnant slave whose baby could be killed upon their birth if they were male thanks to the current king of Egypt? Jochabed did not have to imagine. She lived in this reality—not knowing for months if she carried a boy or girl. As her labor began, the time came for Jochabed to put her Faith in God to the test. Would he protect her son?
When the baby boy Moses, arrived she kept him hidden for three months. The time soon came when he could no longer be hidden. She constructed a basket made of bulrushes, dabbed it with pitch, and then placed Moses in the basket. With a supernatural bout of courage, she floated the basket into the reeds at the river's edge. Can you imagine setting your baby afloat in a basket that you constructed? What faith she showed us women and mothers by this simple act.
