At the Well: a Four-Day Devotional for Deep Encounters With Christ Marilyn Johnson

DAY 3 OF 4

Encountering Jesus Reveals Truth

Focus Scripture: “You Samaritans worship what you do not know” (John 4:22).

Jesus is the way, truth, and life (John 14:6), so meeting with Him changes your perspective, aligning you with His truth.

In today’s passage of John 4, the Samaritan woman shares her ideas with Jesus on correct expressions and locations of worship.

Jesus informs her that her cultural beliefs regarding worship meant she would need to embrace truths that allowed for the true worship of God. (The Samaritans rejected the Old Testament prophetic books, making them more ignorant than the Jews).

Jesus desires to cut through wrong thinking and beliefs that can hinder our worship of Him. He wants us to walk and live in truth. When we encounter Him, the incorrect or incomplete pictures we hold on to will be renewed and changed so that we can correctly worship God.

When was the last time you left yourself open to God so that He could root out unprofitable thoughts and beliefs? You’d be surprised at what He shows to you over time.

Today, as you allow God’s power and light to reveal and break down these beliefs, He will renew your mind with new and true revelation and bring about a complete transformation that begins from within.

Prayer: Father, I recognize I still need to know certain things about You. As You meet with me, shine your light on me in a way that reveals where I need more of your truth. I open myself to renewed thinking today.
