WHEN THINGS DON’T MAKE SENSE

Do not rely on your own understanding. PROVERBS 3:5 CSB

It’s hard not to rely on our own understanding of things. After all, God gave each of us a mind; aren’t we supposed to use it? But we all experience things in life that make no sense whatsoever, and not being able to understand why they happen can keep us up all night. Sometimes we can feel bewildered, even afraid, about our current events. Relying on, leaning on, reacting based on our own understanding is really a misconception because we lack the ability to comprehend anything compared to God’s ability and perspective. So why would we want to? Our sight is so limited, our minds are so small, it should actually be a comfort to release our demand to make sense of something and instead trust in God and remember that He knows and controls all things.

Lord, when times and circumstances get confusing for my husband, help him to stop and determine not to go down a road of analyzing and figuring out what You’re up to. Remind him that You haven’t gone anywhere and You haven’t made any mistakes. Increase his faith to believe with confidence that You are working for his good. Keep his focus on trusting You in all things and acknowledging that You are always working out what’s best for him, even when it doesn’t make sense to him. Ease his mind and calm his nerves. Help me to reassure him of Your greatness in all things, even the things that he doesn’t understand. Help him to hold on to the hope he has in Jesus and feel the comfort that is his when he gives his questions to You to answer as You choose. I’m so thankful that You are in control.IN YOUR LOVE AND GRACE. AMEN.
