After surrendering all into God’s hands, there comes a moment when a profound peace settles over us, and we find ourselves silent before Him, in Him. Rest. We may find ourselves worshipping without words in quiet communion. It is enough to just be—God in me and me in God—just as Jesus prayed our union with the Father would be (John17:6–26).

Rest is the opposite of action. Instead, we enjoy who God is and who we are to Him. It is a time to bask in remembrance of other altars with thanksgiving. Some songwriters have called God our “all in all.” And here we discover that He is. Like the moon basking in and reflecting the light of the sun, we bathe in the light, life, and love of the Son. For me, these moments are like placing my head against Papa’s shoulder and breathing in His goodness. What contentment.

Let Us Rest

• Approach this life-giving altar with silence.
• Take some time to reflect on the Lord’s victories at other altars and meditate on God’s faithfulness to His people and to you. He is ever mighty to save.
• In the same way you would place your tired head against the shoulder of a trusted loved one, rest yourself in God, placing yourself wholly in His abiding love. He is all you need.
• Let silent communion flow from God to you and back again at the cell level. As your Creator, Savior, and Friend, you are known completely.
• He is yours and you are His. Selah.
