WORSHIPING THROUGH OBEDIENCE
Obedience is the outward sign of the truth that we love Christ (John 14:15). It is also the only sign that we belong to Him. It is also the only means by which we can live God’s will. Inward faith always manifests itself in outward works of obedience to God’s Word in increasing measures with a life that more and more resembles the Jesus Christ of the Bible. God desires greater obedience first to His Word and then to all that He has to say with regards to specific direction.
The power to obey God is manifested in the grace He gives us to obey Him. Its basis is not on our own goodness or the natural inclinations of the human heart to be obedient. By nature, no heart is inclined to obey God. It is the progressive working of God’s Spirit in a continually regenerated heart that brings about this amazing phenomenon called obedience. It is Christ’s humility and surrender at the time of the baptism to the Father’s will and the Holy Spirit that empowered obedience. Obedience is the only thing Christ learned on earth (Hebrews 5:8). Incidentally, like our Lord, we also learn obedience through what we suffer and the realities of these, our Lord has time and again made clear to those whom he loved.
"The man that believes will obey; failure to obey is convincing proof that there is no true faith present. To attempt the impossible, God must give faith or there will be none, and He gives faith to the obedient heart only." - A. W. Tozer
“The acid test of our love for God is obedience to His Word.” - Bob Jones, Sr.
