Practical Help for Discipling Your Kids by Chris and Melissa Swainনমুনা
Scripture
Have you ever watched a movie based on a book you’ve read? Did the movie match what you imagined? The Word of God is not just a regular book. 2 Timothy 3 reminds us that every word is inspired by God Himself and applies to every aspect of our lives. It is all we need. Jesus tells us in John 5 that God’s Word can reside in us, and that our belief in Jesus and God’s Word go hand-in-hand.
Many of us already encourage our kids at home to read the Bible and memorize Scriptures. And we are often supported by our local church, which is awesome. But we must teach our kids to apply God’s Word in order for it to change their lives. After all, that’s the downfall Jesus pointed out to the Jews. They poured over the Scriptures but didn’t allow their hearts to be changed.
“Bible engagement is the most critical discipline you can have as a believer. It is most important because it impacts every other discipline in the life of a disciple. We must help our children engage with God’s Word, not just read it” (Write It On Their Hearts). Engagement takes information from the page and applies it to our lives. It allows God’s Word to change us.
We must lead by example. Let our kids see us reading and engaging in the Word. Continue to talk about how Scripture is crucial to their lives. Help them understand the importance of God’s inspired Word and teach them to apply it to their own lives. God’s book is always better than anything we could imagine on our own.
Take time today to ask your kids what they think about the Bible and what it means to them.
