Flowers Don't Worry: Journal Your Way Through Anxiety!

DAY 6 OF 7

Did you know that the dahlia is known to be a gardener’s favorite flower to nurture? With the proper pruning and care, dahlias are known to grow up to 14 inches in diameter. A lot of gardeners attempt to grow large dahlias by working on pruning the plants and giving them the right fertilizers and nourishment throughout the year.

Jesus refers to God the Father as our Gardener who cuts of branches that aren’t fruitful and prunes the ones that bear fruit. It seems like to grow we must go through painful periods that God that our loving Father permits in our lives for our own good. Worrying about these painful situations and trying to avoid them doesn’t help us as much as persisting through them faithfully does. Paul writes to the Hebrews reminding them that “No discipline seems pleasant at the time, but painful. Later on, however, it produces a harvest of righteousness and peace for those who have been trained by it.”

Is it possible that the situation that is causing you anxiety and unease is God-ordained to bring you growth and progress? Is it possible that if you choose to look at your struggle as an opportunity to mature and develop that you might worry about it lesser?

Journaling Prompt:

As you sketch, draw or doodle a dahlia in your journal today; meditate on the process of pruning. Is it something that you are perhaps experiencing? How are you dealing with it? Is it leading to panic and fear or is it helping you power through and grow? Write down Hebrews 12:11 in your journal and seek God’s help through your challenges.

You can watch the video tutorial to learn how to draw a dahlia in a few easy steps.

Prayer:

Lord, I’m sorry if I’ve despised your discipline at times and I submit myself to your pruning. I know that as my Father you desire for me to grow and flourish. I trust your process and I choose to not worry about it. I pray that you will give me the strength to come out of this time stronger and more deeply rooted in You. Amen.
