The Big Questions About Jesus

DAY 12 OF 15

Does the Resurrection of Jesus Matter?

You're going right to the heart of the Christian faith with this question. I will summarize many earth-shatteringly important points into three simple reasons why Jesus' resurrection is important.

The first reason is this: the resurrection proves Jesus is who he says he is. During his time on earth, Jesus made astonishing claims, such as saying he was God and the source of resurrection and life itself. Initially, not even his disciples believed Jesus was who he said he was.

If nothing more had happened, Jesus' name would have been largely forgotten in history. There are plenty of people, usually safely locked up, who think they are God, but many people believed they had seen Jesus rise from the dead, and it changed everything!

The reality of Jesus' resurrection is the only rational explanation for the whole rise of Christianity. There is a massive hole in history that cannot be plugged without it. How else do you explain the rise of Christianity and its impact on history?

The second reason why Jesus' resurrection matters is that it proves that sin's forgiveness is real. The Bible teaches Jesus died for the forgiveness of sin. The fact he rose again demonstrates the Father's endorsement of Jesus' work of salvation at the cross.

Because of Jesus' resurrection, we can know that if we trust him, our sins are forgiven, and God fully accepts us. That transforms how you see yourself and how you experience life. Because of it, you can live a life of peace, assurance, and joy.

The third reason is that it proves once and for all that Jesus wins. If Jesus didn't rise from the dead, things on earth would go on as they always have. People will keep dying, and everything will ultimately be meaningless. Jesus did rise from the dead. As a result, he wins, and I'm a winner, too, because he wins.

The truth is, I'm not used to winning much in terms of how society thinks of winning. I'm not very good at sports, and I've never won the lottery. I don't drive a flashy car, but I've won the greatest prize. I get to win at everything important.

Yes, the resurrection of Jesus changes everything.
