Through the Bible: John

DAY 7 OF 10

Be The Fruitful Branches

I am the true vine, and my Father is the gardener. He cuts off every branch in me that bears no fruit, while every branch that does bear fruit he prunes so that it will be even more fruitful. Remain in me, as I also remain in you. No branch can bear fruit by itself; it must remain in the vine. Neither can you bear fruit unless you remain in me.
John 15:1-2, 4 (ESV)

John 13-15 was Jesus’s last teachings to the disciples. Every word was weighted with love and counsel to the disciples, telling them to hold onto Christ no matter the circumstances. Jesus is the only way to God, and He is the vine that bears many branches. No branch can bear fruit by itself, and branches that split away from the vine become unfruitful and will be removed. Even for long-time Christians, we could be distracted by our egos when serving and ministering. Let us not rely on ourselves but on God. Connect to God, grow in Jesus, listen to the counsel of the Holy Spirit, and let go of all things that will lead to sin in our lives, so we can remain in Jesus, stay close to Him and be fruitful for Him.

Prayer

Father God, we pray for Your everlasting presence in our lives. Let us be humble always before You. We may be trained to be self-reliant, but let us remember that we won’t bear real fruit in life without You. The fruits we grow by ourselves will dry up, but those we grow with You will be eternal. In Jesus’s name, Amen.

About this Plan

Through the Bible: John

As “the disciple whom Jesus loved,” the author was undoubtedly an eyewitness to Jesus’ ministry from the beginning. The book emphasises both the deity and humanity of Jesus, known as Logos, and “was made flesh” to come into the world to save mankind from sin. Reading this book will increase our faith, and by believing Jesus as the Son of God, we may have life in his name.
