Emotional Health and the Miracles of Jesusনমুনা
Offer and Accept Help – Jesus can Multiply our Efforts
None of us has too little that we cannot share. Some years ago, I was going through a difficult phase. And on one of those evenings, while I was sitting by the beach, a little boy from a nearby slum sat next to me and we talked about life. Just as I was about to leave, he asked me to wait, ran and returned with an ice cream. He gave it to me and said, “now that we are friends, you have to take it!” So, I bought him one too and we both ate our ice creams together.
That little boy’s kindness, at that difficult moment in life, encouraged me a lot. The difficulty in my life didn’t disappear, but it gave me perspective. All of us have something to give – no matter how much we lack there’s something to give. And God takes the little that we are willing to give and multiplies it in the lives of others.
Lack is no stranger to people. Most of us have had some experience with it. It is not just physical needs it is also emotional and psychological. And this can cause a lot of distress, fear and make us vulnerable to many forms of abuse. The antidote for this is to know that we are not alone – God is with us. God with us gives us a frame of reference and strength – reducing the potential for abuse.
In our moments of deep internal emotional pain – looking outward helps break the single monotonous view of negativity with a plurality of positive options from God. The disciples were able to see only one thing – lack. While Jesus on the other hand was able to create abundance.
To allow God’s input to pierce through our limited vision can relieve us from a lot of unnecessary distress. And sometimes these options come to us in the form of simple acts of kindness that others offer us. Accept it and offer them to Jesus. The miracle of five loaves and two fish tells us that Jesus can take the little that others offer and multiply it in our lives.
So, give yourself a chance! Allow others to speak – life, love and hope – into your life and Jesus can multiply that.
