My Anchored Hope
Look, before this Bible Plan continues one day further, it’s important to address something big. What happens when thought you placed your hope in God, but your hopes were smashed anyway?
Maybe you hoped and prayed for your parents to stay together, but they didn’t. Maybe you hoped and prayed for your grandma to get better, but she didn’t. Maybe you thought if you just stayed positive that everything would be okay, but it just wasn’t. Broken dreams and shattered hope may be the worst kind of hurt you can experience.
So, where is our hope in Jesus when it seems like God isn’t coming through for us? Watch this video for more on just that.
Yes, dashed hope hurts. When God doesn’t answer your prayers the way you hoped, it can feel like you messed something up or God gave up on you. But that’s never the case. As you learned yesterday, God is always trustworthy. He doesn’t change. And even when bad things happen, Jesus has still paid the price for all your sins. The Holy Spirit is still with you. And you can trust that God is still good.
Today, as you read through the “Faith Hall of Fame” from Hebrews 11, mentioned briefly in the video, you’ll see a big change happen around verse 35. This chapter shows the amazing and powerful things that happened to people in the Bible who put their faith, trust, and hope in God and expected Him to show up. Then, you read about others who didn’t see the victory on earth. They placed their hope in a better life in heaven. And that is a hope that will never disappoint you! You can trust that God will work everything in your life together for good when you trust and follow Him and anchor your hope in Him.
Ask yourself: After you read the “Faith Hall of Fame” from Hebrews 11, ask yourself this question. Which people mentioned in this chapter would I like to learn more about?
Challenge yourself: Write down the name or names of your answers from the “Ask yourself” question above. This week, find out where you can read more about them in the Bible. Ask a trusted adult for help if you can’t find them. Become inspired to see what a faith-filled person who places their hope in God and His faithfulness can look like!
Pray: My best hope is in You, God. It’s not just a wish or a positive outlook. My future is Yours, so lead me to great acts of love. No matter what circumstances come my way, I will not pull up my anchor. I hold firmly to the hope I claim in You. In Jesus’ name, amen.
