Enforcing You: Standing on the Promises of Godনমুনা
“I will praise You, for I am fearfully and wonderfully made; Marvelous are Your works,
And that my soul knows very well.” Psalm 139:14
Some years ago, the Lord brought this verse to mind during a season of personal healing. The second part of the verse caused me to pause and consider whether my soul “knew very well” that I was fearfully and wonderfully made. While I found it easy to flippantly quote this verse, share it with my clients, and declare it, the reality was that my soul conflicted with the Truth that God perfectly made me.
The soul is the mind, the emotions, and the will. It is what makes up who we are; it is our personality. I like to refer to the soul as “the thinker, the feeler, and the picker.” Your spirit can know a Truth, but your soul wars with that Truth. In other words, it is possible for the soul to be unreconciled or not in alignment with what God says about you. This was the case for me. I knew I was supposed to love my physique, but deep inside my soul, I struggled to KNOW this VERY well.
The word “know” in Hebrew denotes the idea of being one with something. In essence, this verse is David declaring that his soul is one with the truth and that there is no separation between the two. This is what it means to be reconciled with Truth and to be one with God in spirit and in your mind, emotions, and will.
Think about whether your soul “knows very well” that you are fearfully and wonderfully made. Do you know that YOU are a marvelous work of God? Maybe you don’t care for something in your personality or a facial feature. Or perhaps you are challenged by your physique. Can you look at yourself in the mirror and agree that every part of you is wonderfully made? Can you declare that YOU are a marvelous work of God, inside and out?
Let’s start today. Grab a mirror and declare, “God, YOU say that I am a marvelous work and fearfully and wonderfully made. I agree with you, and I declare that I AM a marvelous work. In Jesus’ name, amen.
