Walk Through The Bible 365 - October

DAY 26 OF 31

Watching Over Us

It is comforting to know that God is watching over us as Proverbs reminds us, "guarding the paths of justice and watching over the way of his saints. (Proverbs 2:8 ESV) In this context we find a different kind of watching, not a good loving type of watching like a parent watching his child freely playing and having a good time.

This watching is the type where God Almighty spoke to the Jews living in Egypt and spoke words of rebuke and judgment. He will watch them perish and be destroyed. The reader may ascertain that the people may call out to God in anguish, but He will only watch as His Word is fulfilled.

God warned them, but the people refused to listen and blatantly disobeyed His instructions. This is a stern warning for us that God does not turn His eyes away from us when we reject His truth, but He is watching us until His Word is fulfilled. His Word and mercy endures forever!

Prayer: Great are you and greatly to be praised, O God. Thank you for your love towards us and for examples of warnings from times past. Search our hearts and tell us any wicked way that is not pleasing to you. Humble us in order that your anger is not kindled, and may you watch over our lives to find obedience and reverence. In Jesus' Name, Amen.
