Through the Bible: Matthew

DAY 8 OF 11

Faith in Motion

And Jesus answered them, “Truly, I say to you, if you have faith and do not doubt, you will not only do what has been done to the fig tree, but even if you say to this mountain, ‘Be taken up and thrown into the sea,’ it will happen. And whatever you ask in prayer, you will receive, if you have faith.
Matthew 21:21-22 (ESV)

Jesus was making a strong point about the disciples’ lack of faith. The power behind the prayer comes from God, not the one who prays. Receiving powerful things from God starts with having faith and believing that He is able and loving. However, our request must be in harmony with the principles and will of God. God will only give us what is good for us, for He knows best what is good for us.

A few months ago, my family were in UK as my son was going to start university there. Till the last few days of our trip, my son has still not received the offer of accommodation from the university. The admission office informed us that my son will most likely have to find another accommodation outside the campus. We continued to pray with faith believing God will provide and surely, HE did, although not the room type that we applied but we accepted the offer anyway. Now, after a few months, we found that what was offered to my son was in fact more suitable for his needs.

Prayer

Heavenly Father, thank You for Your unfailing love. May we always be yearning to draw closer and get deeper in relationship with You. May we be sensitive to discern Your will for us and always pray with faith. May we not be discouraged when our prayers are not granted for we trust that You know what's best for us. In Jesus’ name, Amen.

About this Plan

Through the Bible: Matthew

With more than fifty citations from the Old Testament, Matthew stands in the gap to unfold the grand drape of the New Testament stage, proclaiming that all messianic prophecies in the past have now been fulfilled in Jesus. The Kingdom of God will now be extended through the building of Christ’s church, and the promise to make Abraham’s descendants numerous will now be fulfilled through the Great Commission.
