Lion Devotional

DAY 11 OF 14

NO ONE DEVO

LYRIC EXCERPT:

There will be no other god before You

There will be no other god before You

There is no one above You

No one beside You

And nobody like You

There will be no other god before You

No one, no one, no one

A missing shoe when you're already running late.

An assignment your boss needed on their desk yesterday.

A mountain of dirty laundry, a lawn that needs mowing, a leaking faucet that needs fixing.

So many things try to compete for our attention, time, and energy that it can be difficult to know what belongs at the top of our list.

In Luke 10, Jesus is invited to visit the home of two sisters. When He arrives, Martha jumps to action and starts prepping dinner. And then she sees it — her sister, Mary, sitting at Jesus’ feet, listening to Him tell a story. Immediately, she gets frustrated and even asks Jesus to tell her sister to come to help her.

Jesus says to her, “You are worried and upset about many things, but few things are needed—or indeed only one. Mary has chosen what is better, and it will not be taken away from her.”

Martha got so distracted trying to make everything perfect that she missed out on spending time in Jesus’ presence.

It’s no mistake that the first commandment God gives Moses is to “have no other gods before Him.” Everything else we do flows from that place.

Today, God wants us to pause our busyness –– to put Him first. He wants us to give Him our full attention because He knows that what we need can be found at His feet.

He’s a gentle Father who wants to provide for you, but He won’t compete with your to-do list. Ask yourself: How can I prioritize His presence this week?

About this Plan

Lion Devotional

In Revelation, we see Jesus as the “Lion of the tribe of Judah” and the “Lamb who was slain.” So much of God’s kingdom embodies paradox; even Jesus Himself was sovereign AND He submitted to authority. He’s the beginning AND the end. He isn’t relegated to one or the other. Join us for this 14-day study as we learn about how God’s kingdom and character may surprise us.
