Finding Purpose
Now that we have established the things that don’t fulfil, and the One who can fulfil us, let’s look at the unique and individual ways in which that plays out in our personal lives.
Proverbs 29:18 says this:
‘When people do not accept divine guidance, they run wild.
But whoever obeys the law is joyful.’
The second step towards finding and living with purpose is to consult the Purpose Giver.
Jeremiah 29:11 says:
‘For I know the plans I have for you,” says the Lord. “They are plans for good and not for disaster, to give you a future and a hope. In those days when you pray, I will listen. If you look for me wholeheartedly, you will find me.’
God predestined us before we were born to do good works on the earth (see Ephesians 2:10). He carved and created a life for us that would be fulfilling, enriching, and even challenging at times! We were designed to live within the confines of God’s love, it is where we flourish most.
The best way to discover God’s plan for our lives is to ask Him!
Spend some time in focused prayer, perhaps even an extended period, and seek the heart of God for your life. God promises us that when we pray, He will listen. He promises us in scripture that when we look for Him wholeheartedly, we will find Him.
If you are struggling to discern what God is saying, you could also ask a leader or mentor in your church to help you discover what God wants to do in your life. Many people in the body of Christ have the gift of prophecy and giving words of knowledge and encouragement. There is no shame in seeking these people out and asking for their guided input.
Have fun! Enjoy seeking God for direction and purpose. He loves to give good gifts to His children and the gift of a purpose-driven life is one of those gifts.
About this Plan
In this three-day devotional, we will look at what it means to live with purpose. Aimless living is all too easy and is a sad waste of our precious lives. Why not take the next three days to unpack what it looks like to turn from the ways of the world, face God and begin to follow Jesus – on purpose.
