Ending the Year on Purpose

DAY 2 OF 7

Physical

“Take care of your body. It's the only place you have to live.” ― Jim Rohn

The body is as intricate and miraculous as it is demanding and obstinate. When we lack intentional discipline in stewarding our physical bodies, we leave ourselves vulnerable to the many lures of the flesh. As Paul purposed in his heart to do, so we should discipline our bodies and keep them under control.

When the cravings come, we should discipline ourselves to say no. When the temptation to hit snooze and sleep in rises, let’s drag ourselves out of bed anyway. When the lustful desires arise, we can run and tell someone who will help hold us accountable. Let’s not go into another year where our bodies are the ones calling the shots instead of the Holy Spirit who lives inside of us. Otherwise, our bodies will take us down a path towards unhealthy patterns guided by impulsive cravings.

Reflection:

In what ways might the Holy Spirit want you to pay closer attention to the way you steward His dwelling place?

How healthy are your habits when it comes to eating, drinking, resting, sleeping, and exercising?

What's one thing you can do today to live more purposefully in this area?

About this Plan

Ending the Year on Purpose

Adapted from The Last Thirty Devotional, this plan is a journey designed to challenge readers to end their year with greater purpose and intentionality. We will not wake up on New Year's Day and suddenly have better eating habits, relational habits, or work-related habits. We have to make intentional decisions today in order to see lasting change and truly experience a fulfilled life tomorrow.
