Rebuilding Your Reputation: Part II
In business, our mistakes can haunt our reputation and undermine our growth opportunities. In today’s world, social media can destroy your reputation almost instantly.
The Apostle Paul modeled three steps to rebuilding his reputation from being Saul, the persecutor of Christians, to becoming the Apostle Paul, the Christian evangelist. The first step Paul took was to confess his mistakes.
In Acts 22:19, Paul addresses a crowd of angry believers, recalling his earlier confession to God, "'Lord,’ I replied, ‘these people know that I went from one synagogue to another to imprison and beat those who believe in you.'"
If you’ve made a mistake that has damaged your reputation and affected others, begin the journey of restoring your reputation by confessing your mistakes first to God, then to those affected. A humble confession, instead of a cover-up, will be your first step in restoring your reputation.
Questions for Reflection:
- Why is it hard to confess our mistakes?
- Can you think of a mistake that you haven’t confessed? What’s stopping you?
- Confessing to God is a private matter; confessing to others who were affected puts you in the spotlight and calls for humility. Why is important that we make both confessions?

About this Plan
We all make mistakes, and sometimes they can tarnish our reputation. Consider the Apostle Paul. He persecuted Christians before God called him to preach the gospel. His reputation was so soiled, the apostles wanted nothing to do with him. This Bible reading plan shows us the steps Paul took to rebuild his reputation, steps that we can follow, too, when faced with our own mistakes.
