Heart for His Houseনমুনা
Day 10
You are Living Stones
Ps Jonah Peacock
The book of 1 Peter is a letter written to persecuted Christians who were scattered across different regions. While we are considering God's house in a time that we aren't physically in the building, Peter brings an encouraging reminder about our function in the house of God.
1 Peter 2:4-5 NLT
4 You are coming to Christ, who is the living Cornerstone of God's temple. He was rejected by people, but he was chosen by God for great honour.
5 And you are living stones that God is building into his spiritual temple. What's more, you are his holy priests. Through the mediation of Jesus Christ, you offer spiritual sacrifices that please God.
Christ is the living Cornerstone of the house of God, but we are also living stones! In this season, we can feel a bit scattered, spread out, isolated, but there is so much power in reminding ourselves of the spiritual temple we all play a part in building.
The Body of Christ, the House of God, the Church, all of these are not simply places or buildings, but it's you and me; we are the very building blocks of the spiritual temple that God is building today.
We are approaching the time when we will be coming back to meet in His house together, and we can be certain of the joy and fulfilment that will come from being together. But let's not forget our mission; the harvest is riper than it's ever been. We are the living stones that build the spiritual temple that God will use to carry his Gospel to a world that desperately needs it.
Prayer:
God, I pray that you would use me. I want to be a living stone that builds your temple, clinging close to Jesus, the Cornerstone. Use me to carry your Gospel to those in my life. As the refreshment of a new season approaches, I pray that you would fill me to overflowing with Your Spirit, so I can do your work effectively and bring glory to you.
