Words From the Window Seat

DAY 4 OF 5

It’s easy to be our own worst enemies. I learned this every day throughout the pandemic, when I felt like a bully toward myself. Our minds are powerful places. It can be scary to spend too much time in them if we don’t constantly remind ourselves of our truth. We have to lay down our crap, our fears, our worries, our stress, our anxieties, and ask God to scoop them up and take them. I’m not strong enough to do it on my own. I tried it for a very, very long time, friend. I tried really hard throughout the pandemic, and it ran me dry. I got to my breaking point. . . .

I started speaking truth to myself, reminding myself of the things I knew to be true. I know who I am and how I’ve healed. I know who loves me and the life I get because of God’s love. I spoke these truths out loud, I wrote them down to read daily, and I kept at it until the thoughts in my head didn’t win all the time. I started to be kinder toward myself and replace lies with truth. When I felt like none of my words mattered enough for a book, I wrote them anyway. The truth had always been there. I had not forfeited my growth. I just had to get to a place where I really, truly believed that.

Please remember this: you have not forfeited your growth. No matter how you feel right now as you read this, how the pandemic made you feel, or what you are carrying at this moment in time, you have grown and will grow. Even though life may feel like a question mark, you are not one. You may have a lot more bad days during these times than good, and that is okay. That’s how we grow strong and full of courage. You are growing through this. Growing, growing, and growing. Remind yourself even when you don’t feel like it.

Prayer

Father, I hand over all of my fears and worries to you now. Please strengthen me and help me continue to grow. Amen.
