The Covenant Friend
David's success was not only determined by his skill and anointing. It was also paved through his friendship with Jonathan. Their friendship was unique and powerful. Jonathan was David's covenant friend. Even though Jonathan was the rightful heir to the throne, he gave up his right for the sake of promoting the anointing and calling of David to be king. Jonathan did not look at David as a threat. He saw David as his friend. He was loyal and demonstrated integrity in their friendship. Have you chosen loyal friends who will uplift you or leave you downcast? We need to choose spiritual friends who possess integrity and humility. Friends who will compliment your journey. Real friends will not compete for your journey. They are loyal to complete your journey with you.
I want to introduce the greatest friend any human being can have. His name is Jesus. Jesus calls you His friend throughout the Bible. He makes everything he has learned from His Father known to you. You are not a stranger to Him, or a slave, but a friend. A covenant friend. Rather a friend in the covenant. Jesus paid the price for you to have eternal life. He paved the way for your destiny. He came and died for you so that you may have life abundantly. He is a true confidant. He is the righteous and rightful heir to the throne in heaven. Yet He did not consider equality with God something to be used for His own advantage, instead emptied and humble Himself by becoming obedient to death, even if He had to die on a cross. Jesus established the covenant and called us His friends. He is with you and He will never forsake you. He was even nicknamed the ‘Friend of Sinners’ by the religious leaders of His time. This is powerful and was possible because of the covenant He made with man. Whether you are a saint or sinner, Jesus can be your greatest covenant friend. Choose Him as your friend and your life will never be the same.
