DAY 9 OF 12

The day when the son becomes the sun
By Rev. Kenley Mann, Chaplain

I would often share Psalm 103 with church members who were in the hospital: bless the LORD, O my soul, and do not forget all his benefits – who pardons all your guilt, who heals all your diseases. Sometimes those church members passed away.

I would think, “But what about the part that says who heals all your diseases?” It all clicked in my mind when I heard a sermon by Pastor Enter. He shared that when he went to visit a member who had cancer, she ministered to him.  She explained to him, “Don’t worry for me, Pastor Enter. I will either get better or get perfect.” The Lord would either improve her earthly health or He would take her to heaven and she would fully be healed from all of her diseases. She would be perfect. That’s the fullest healing.

Malachi speaks of the day when the Lord will make perfect every person who boasts in Christ alone as his or her reason for heaven—every person who reveres Jesus’s name. Yes, we are already perfect in God’s eyes on Earth, but on the Last Day, the rays of the sun on that day will be replaced with Jesus, who is the sun of heaven, for heaven needs no sun because “the glory of God illuminates the city, and the Lamb is its lamp” (Revelation 21:23).

The “wings” to which Malachi refers are the rays of the sun. On Judgment Day, Jesus will shine on us and will bring us perfect healing, for our bodies will be raised perfect and reunited with our souls.

There is one promise that God has not yet kept, however. Still, God keeps his promises, so we know that he will keep this one.  This time, in glorious Sun, he will fully heal every believer with a body that is free from death and sin. We stay in the light of His word so that we will be in his healing light on That Day.

Prayer: Lord Jesus, keep us in the sunlight of your word to prepare us for the day when you shine on us as the Sun of righteousness and bring the fullest healing with your rays. Keep us excited thinking that today could be THE day. Amen.
