Christian Loneliness

DAY 5 OF 7

Day 5: In Society

It was probably about 8-10 years ago, but I remember vividly sitting in a bar in downtown Pasadena thinking to myself, “I don’t belong here.”

I had been invited out to celebrate a friend’s birthday. Now I’m not saying anyone who goes to a bar is evil or anything like that. But I am saying that that night, in the bar I was in, the environment was not good. It’s a little difficult to explain but when you feel this feeling you know. I could feel it in my Spirit. I felt very unsettled. Have you ever been trying to go sleep when your room is hot and no matter which position you turn you just can’t get comfortable? It felt like that but on the inside.

As a Christian in today’s society you will not often feel comfortable. Laws are being changed, and en masse people expect you to be open to every kind of philosophy or idea as long as it didn’t come from the Bible.

Cancel culture creates a fear that if we say things that aren’t popular we will face serious consequences. People have lost their jobs or positions merely for standing up for what Jesus said is true. Society demands that we cave to their point of view. We cannot give in to that pressure.

Jesus said we’re supposed to be the light of the world and the salt of the earth. We, by nature, should stand out from the crowd. We should be unique in comparison to the world. That means we will be lonely sometimes as we try to make a change.

Unless God opens their hearts, the world cannot even understand you when you try to explain Spiritual things to them. That’s because God can’t be understood through human wisdom. It has to come through the power of the Holy Spirit. Trying to explain truth to someone who rejects God’s wisdom is like talking to a brick wall. You’re bound to feel lonely and frustrated when the conversation is over.

About this Plan

Christian Loneliness

Christianity is not supposed to be comfortable and convenient. If you stand for God, many times you may find yourself standing alone. One of the biggest challenges we face in a culture that is increasingly anti-Jesus, is loneliness. This plan will explore how to cope with loneliness by building a deeper relationship with God. By learning this we will never truly be alone.
