Woke: Living for an Audience of One in a Cancel Cultureনমুনা
Fear Not
Yesterday, we looked at the start of Daniel’s resistance to compromise. His boldness was rooted in his love for God and an understanding that man's threats cannot rival God's power. Ultimately, this granted him the king's favor (Daniel 1:19-21).
When we decide to live uncompromisingly, there will be believers who share our convictions and unbelievers who admire our courage. But what happens when our decision yields less than favorable results, and more frightening opposition comes along to threaten our reputation, freedom, and livelihood? Such was the case in Daniel chapter 3 as he faced the death penalty for refusing to submit to cultural norms. In just three short chapters, Daniel goes from being highly regarded to the possibility of execution by fire.
Although King Nebuchadnezzar had experienced the power of God through Daniel’s boldness, it was not long before he was pressuring him again to give in to the secular decrees. Similarly, today the culture is just as persistent and fickle. It is not uncommon that standing by your convictions could mean that the same people that love you one day might despise you the next. However, Isaiah 55:11 says the word of God will not return void, and it will accomplish what God desires.
The story of Daniel affirms God’s track record of defense. Despite facing his death, Daniel refused to compromise. He, again, saw the deliverance of the Lord. While most of us may not face the death penalty for refusing to conform, the social consequences can feel akin to emotional or spiritual death. However, like Daniel, our decision to be unwavering can serve as a witness that God, in His sovereignty, is uncancelable.

About this Plan
Cancel culture is an imposing force that threatens to silence or "cancel" those who hold convictions that differ from mainstream thinking. While it has become trendy in recent years, the bible is clear that there is nothing new under the sun. Join MCWEN Founder Andrena Sawyer for this 4-day devotional that encourages believers to stand firm in their beliefs and convictions regardless of what the world says is trendy.
