Becoming Like Jesusনমুনা
Knowing Your Creator
Yesterday we learned that putting on our new nature means being transforming into the likeness of Christ. Over the next several days, we will take an in-depth look at Colossians 3:10, 12-14 to discover what it means to live a life that reflects the life and character of Jesus. Let’s get started…
“Put on your new nature, and be renewed as you learn to know your Creator and become like him…” Colossians 3:10
The first thing we learn in this passage is that putting on our new nature and becoming like our Creator is a process that takes place as we come to know God. The more we know Him, the more we become like Him.
Coming to know God is similar to coming to know a friend. The more time we spend with them, the deeper understanding we have. Jesus modeled this for us. Although Jesus is the image of the invisible God and therefore knows him fully, we still see Him invest in his relationship with God.
• We see him pray regularly. (Mark 1:35, Matthew 14:23, Luke 5:16)
• We see him reflect on Scripture. (Luke 2:46-47, Matthew 4:1-11, Luke 4:14-30)
• We see him fast. (Matthew 4:1-11)
• We see him notice the hand of God in his surroundings. (Matthew 6:26-34)
As we reflect on these rhythms in Jesus’ life, let’s take an honest look at how we invest in our relationship with God. Are you spending quality time daily getting to know the Lord? We are all busy, and it’s easy to make excuses not to prioritize time with the Lord, but having an accurate understanding of God matters. In a world with a myriad of conflicting ideas and perspectives, knowing who God is and what he says is true, is essential. That understanding becomes the lens through which we can discern his will and thus follow his lead. We all have room to grow in our knowledge of God. What is one rhythm you can adopt today that will help you to know God more?
