Through the Bible: Ezraনমুনা
God Keeps His Word
In the first year of Cyrus king of Persia, in order to fulfil the word of the Lord spoken by Jeremiah, the Lord moved the heart of Cyrus king of Persia to make a proclamation throughout his realm and also to put it in writing.
Ezra 1:1 (ESV)
The Book of Ezra is about God moving the heart of the gentile King Of Persia, Cyrus, to fulfill His word, as prophesied through the Prophet Jeremiah. The Israelites were still protected and thriving in a foreign land as they encountered several unknowns and uncertainties. Nevertheless, the Israelites were looking forward to the fulfillment of Jeremiah's prophecy.
Similarly, today we are waiting for Jesus's return. Yet, even as we wait, we face uncertainties and unknowns. Who would have thought an invisible virus would bring the world to a standstill? Yet, God is changing hearts and touching the lives of His children. Many are coming into the saving knowledge of Christ.
What is God prompting in your heart today? Like Cyrus, Zerubbabel and Ezra, always follow God's prompting, because whatever He says will be fulfilled. Let us prepare ourselves and those around us to meet Christ when He returns.
Prayer
Lord, may we do our part in preparing us and those around us to meet You as you come in the clouds. In Jesus' name, Amen.
About this Plan
The book of Ezra covers the Jewish history following the Babylonian exile. Chapters 1-6 recount how Zerubbabel led the Jews to return and rebuild the temple in Jerusalem in 538 BC. Chapters 7-10 narrate how Ezra led another group to return and restore the practices of Torah as a community in 458 BC. This book gives encouragement to anyone who returns from captivity of sins to freedom in God’s house.
