Shine Your Light in Darknessনমুনা
DAY 2 — We Are Children of Light
So far, we have learned that God has promised that His Light will always make things better in our lives because we are the righteousness of God. He is the One Who has made us righteous in Him. We can raise our expectations and expect good to come from Him more and more every day!
So how does God bring His Light into this world of darkness?
Let’s go back to the beginning and look at the book of beginnings—the book of Genesis. It begins, “...the earth was without form, and void; and darkness was upon the face of the deep. And the Spirit of God moved… and God said, ‘Let there be light’” (Genesis 1:2–3).
What do we do in the darkest of times? We look to God the Father, Who is Light, and spoke it into existence; God the Son, Jesus Christ, Light of the world, and God the Holy Spirit, our Advocate and Comforter, Who illuminates our hearts with “wisdom and revelation in the knowledge of Him” (Ephesians 1:17). We embrace our identity as “children of Light” (Ephesians 5:8).
1 John 1:5 says, “This is the message which we have heard from Him and declare to you, that God is light and in Him is no darkness at all.” We are children of God, who is Light, therefore we are children of Light. 1 John 4:8 says, “...God is love.” Therefore, we are children of love as well.
What I want you to see is, God speaks forth what He is—Light—and what He is shows up. We are made in His image, and so as He is, so also are we in this world. In the midst of darkness, we can speak by speaking His Word into the darkness. And the darkness will give way to Light.
I want you to notice something. The first three words of verses 3, 6, 9, 11, 14, and 20 are: “Then God said.” And yet, throughout Chapter 1, after He spoke those words, shortly afterwards, it says multiple times, “He saw that it was good.” God spoke, and then He saw that it was good. As we speak what He says, we will see good come into our lives as a result as well.
Our Lord Jesus said: “I Am the Light of the world. Whoever follows Me will never walk in darkness but will have the Light of life” (John 8:12).
We have the Light of life living inside of us, and we can bring forth that Light. In tomorrow’s devotional, we will explore a few more remedies that God has given us to shine the Light of His Word into any dark areas of our lives.
