DAY 13 OF 20

“Uh oh. I can’t believe I just said that out loud!” Suddenly, you have this sick feeling in your stomach, your heart starts racing, and your hands start sweating. Why? Because you know you’re either in serious trouble or you’ve just caused severe damage to a relationship and maybe even your reputation. The hard part? No matter how many times we say we’re sorry, we can’t take the words and hurt back.

Our words are not like the comments we leave online. We can't go back and delete or edit them. We promise we didn’t mean what we said, but Jesus pulls back the curtain and lets us in on a little secret. Are you ready for it? How we feel in our hearts will eventually come out in our actions and through our words. Ugh. That one hurts. Radical people guard their hearts. This means we are careful with what we let our minds focus on. Because if we are focusing on ways to love and care for others, those thoughts and intentions will come out in what we say to and do for others.

What is one positive affirmation you can share with someone today?

About this Plan

Rad

Jesus had a lot to say about love, but not everyone loved him. Instead, Jesus’ opponents hated him, attacked him, and saw him as extreme — a radical. And they had a point! The things Jesus taught about loving God and others challenged the status quo. In this 4-week devotional series from Grow Curriculum, we'll look at four ways Jesus invites us to love others according to his revolutionary example.
