Contend earnestly for the faith
Jude 1 : 3
Beloved, while I was very diligent to write to you concerning our common salvation, I found it necessary to write to you exhorting you to contend earnestly for the faith which was once for all delivered to the saints.
In our Christian life, we must keep our faith in the Lord and walk in it every day, as written in Hebrews 10:38, “Now the just shall live by faith, but if anyone draws back, My soul has no pleasure in him.”
Even though some challenges and temptations try to prevent us from contending earnestly for the faith, we must still try to keep our faith in the Lord. With eyes that are fixed on Jesus, who leads us from faith to faith, we can do things and even become victorious because the Holy Spirit in us is greater than the power of this world. We will not be swayed by the heretical teachings that seek to creep in and we will be vigilant by remaining faithful to the Gospel of Christ.
The word "contend" in Greek is epdagonizomal. This word is used to describe a battle that must be fought by every faithful believer to defend his faith. Jesus also experienced temptations when he was still living on earth (Matthew 4:1-11, Hebrews 4:15). Even though Jesus fought against the temptations of the evil one and struggled with various challenges, He was able to go through everything faithfully.
Every struggle we face, whether it is big or small, must be faced with eyes that are fixed on Jesus who leads us in faith (Hebrews 12:1-2). If we continue contending faithfully for the faith, in the end, we will receive eternal salvation with Jesus in heaven as our reward.
Salvation is a gift from the Father through faith in Jesus Christ. Do not let it go, hold on to it, and keep on holding on to it.
